(In Front of the Gate)
Two hundred fifty-nine (259) vehicles carried in construction materials in three times. April 9 (“four-ku”) is considered a “folk day”, and folk concert was held in front of the Gate. Such well-known folk-song singers as Shinya Mayonaka and Yoshikichi Chinen sang their own songs in their wish for peace. Mr. Tomohiro Yara, a candicate of the by-election of the House of Representatives from the 3rd Ward of Okinawa, to fill the vacancy created by Mr. Denny Tamashiro, Prefectural Governor, also visited the site to kick-off the important election campaign, which was started today.
(On the Sea in Oura-Bay)
Two boats and eight canoes protested on the sea in Oura-Bay. The construction workers were setting up the covering blocks at K8 revetment and tetrapots at K4 revetment. Protesters tried to cross the float and approach the site, but all the canoe members were detained by the Coast Guards. In the afternoon, the protest was canceled due to the strong wind.
(In front of Ryukyu Cement Pier in Awa)
About 10 people protested all day long. Four-hundred and ninety (490) dumps carried in the earth-and-sand, and 2 carrier ships departed from the port. The photo shows the Awa mine where the mountain surface is bare. These mountains provide the major quarry in the Prefecture, and due to the mining over several decades most mountains have lost green.
