Almost one year has passed since the “Prefectural Referendum” (Feb 14, 2019) which proved that about 72% of the votes opposed cnostruction of a new military base. Abe Regime has, ignoring the result of voting, forcibly continued dumping earth/sand, and the reclaimed area is about to reach nearly 2% of the total area, while the prefectural citizen’s anger has increased more and more. Prime Minister Abe, mired in corruption, will not be able to keep forcing through or remain bullish forever. It is obvious for anyone that the prime minister is constantly lying and full of excuses at the Diet.
The members of “The United HENOKO” called on citizens across the country for the 5th Intensive Action in the commemoration of the first anniversary of the Prefectural Referendum. In September last year, 150 citizens gathered and blocked completely earth/sand delivery to the pier in Awa and in Shiokawa. We now share one conviction that “gathering of many people can stop the construction.” A leaflet for the coming campaign says, “Miracle, again!” with confidence borne from the previous success. An exchange meeting for the participants is to be held on Feb 24. The protest rally will be carried out intensively for 5 days in corporation with various organizations that come to unite for Henoko in response to the calling of “The United Henoko”; Shimagurumi groups and other civic organizations all over Okinawa, the canoe team, and ordinary citizens.

It was so warm that the arrival of the spring was felt close. Forty members of the Christian Women’s Forum including Koreans visited “in front of the gate” and joined the sit-in. The number of protestors peaked to 80 at one time. Three deliveries were made, and total 196 vehicles entered in the base.

About 40 people made a protest, divided into two groups at the entrance and the exit of the pier, saying, “Don’t kill the sea with red soil!” and “Don’t join the illegal construction!” etc.
Approximately 20 or more dump trucks were trapped within the pier grounds, and the delivery work was delayed this day, too. Delivered earth/sand of 609 truckloads were loaded to the carriers.

Ten canoe members who had discontinued their protest on the sea due to high waves rushed to join the protestors on land. Protest demonstration was started in front of the trucks at about 9:15am, stopping the delivery work until the riot police came at a little past 10:00am. Most of the dump trucks were confined within the pier grounds. Earth/sand of 401 truckloads were loaded to the carriers.
